In pumps, a bonnet is a metal covering for the openings in the valve chambers. A bonnet may be any of various hoods, covers, or protective devices. Valve bonnets are available in many designs and models (the most typical are: bolted, round bolted, welded, pressure seal) and are often manufactured using the same material grade of the valve body. The bonnet is connected with the body by a threaded, bolted, or welded joint connection – and different types of gaskets are used to ensure leak-free connections between the body and the bonnet.

Cartridges are used in a number of different restaurant equipment systems from water and air filtration to flavor cartridges to coffee and condiment cartridges. A cartridge is a prefabricated subassembly that can be easily installed in or removed from a larger mechanism or replaced with another interchangeable subassembly.

A check valve, clack valve, non-return valve, reflux valve, retention valve or one-way valve is a valve that normally allows fluid (liquid or gas) to flow through it in only one direction.

Valves are widely used in different restaurant equipment designs. A valve is a device that regulates, directs or controls the flow of a fluid (gases, steam, liquids, fluidized solids, or slurries) by opening, closing, or partially obstructing various passageways. In an open valve, fluid flows in a direction from higher pressure to lower pressure.

Valves may be operated manually, either by a handle, lever, pedal or wheel. Valves may also be automatic, driven by changes in pressure, temperature, or flow, allowing control over a variety of operational requirements.
